Post-Production Survey Results

After careful data analysis, Josh & I drew up the results from our post-production questionnaire. Below is a concise representation of our results:

Analysis of Important Results

All participants found the opening and closing images extremley effective e.g. striking, gothic and engaging. This proves that our intention to shock and startle our audience was a complete success. This result also shows that our attempt to use the gothic and angular design elements of German Expressionism was a clear aspect to the video for our audience. This was a very important outcome from the questionnaire as it illustrates that we have successfully engaged our audience from the start, which is ultimately a vital element needed in real music videos to rake audiences in. We have also succesfully manged to imprint the most important images into our audiences mind...e.g. eyes, music box and silouettes. This shows that our use of Early Soviet Cinema editing techniques using the fast cutting and splicing of images to produce 'meaning' has proven to enhance our video so the audience are left with an explicit memory of our video.

Again, ALL 17 participants found the video very exciting; enough to watch it again. This is a very important result as it shows we have created an original stimulating video, so much so that an audience could sit through the entire piece again. In the real world of music videos, this is a vital aspect of 'audience attention' to achieve as it's their returnability to the video that furthers the products success.

15 of 17 students felt bewildered throughout the video which is a very succesful outcome for Josh and I. Our intention was to visually match the music's perplexing quality and to mystify our audience with the cryptic narrative so they feel engaged enough to see the video again. This relates to the technique of Interpelation explained by Louis Pierre Althusser in the book Ideology and Ideological State Apparatuses (1969). We have embraced this aspect to high level throughout editing as it's this baffling nature that excites viewers and interests them in a music video.
