Discovering Imogen Heap

Josh and I have a shared enthusiasm for electronic/indie music, and for a particular artist, Imogen Heap. Whilst researching her music selection, we discovered her brand new album; ‘Ellipse’ is being released on August 24th 2009 (pictured left). We have heard preview snippets of various tracks and in particular like ‘Bad Body Double’ and ‘Aha!”.

Imogen Heap is a Grammy winning English singer and songwriter from the UK.

For her solo work, Heap specializes in heavily produced and arranged singer-songwriter pop incorporating elements of rock, dance and electronica. Heap is notable for her use of manipulated electronic sounds (and is in demand as a remixer).

♪'I just love crafting and shaping sounds. Actually, many of the sounds that I work with start off as organic instruments - guitar, piano, clarinet, etc. I like to breathe my own life into these sounds, and I do try to keep the ‘air’ in the music. Some people think electronic music is cold, but I think that has more to do with the people listening than the actual music itself'

Heap also mixes ambient sound into her music where appropriate. She states that her song lyrics come from 'personal experience, but are encoded rather than being straightforwardly confessional'.
