After further research, we have settled on definitely using ‘Aha!’ for our project (snippet of track below). Our current intention is to create a music video that represents the song in a dance form, rather than heavily focusing on promoting Imogen as a music artist. We feel there is currently a lack of this approach to music videos and want to communicate the actual meaning of the song rather than having a conventional band jumping around in a commercialized fashion.
Our existing design is to set the video in a dark studio, with various black and white backdrops. We feel that this simplicity will engage the audience to just focus on the dance within the video, rather than bewildering them with an elaborate set and naturalistic setting, like in a crowded street. This minimalism will therefore allow us to concentrate all our energy and time into choreographing and directing the arrangement of our music video. Being a professional dancer myself with various theatrical experiences including Billy Elliot The Musical (2004), I will be able to confidently choreograph our interpretation of the music and ensure the performance does not come across as 'tacky'. In terms of performers, 2 girls from my Ballet School 'West London School of Dance' have agreed to be the dancers for the entire video.
